Son Light House is one of the largest food pantry programs in the county. It serves 17% of the county’s residents who receive food under the PA Dept. of Agriculture’s Emergency Food Assistance Program. Only American Rescue Workers and the Salvation Army food programs in Williamsport are larger. This fact demonstrates that people living in small towns and rural areas in our area are also very much in need. In October 682 households and 1,827 individuals were served. Son Light House depends on your contributions for food purchases, operating expenses and transportation expenses. Prayers, volunteers, money and food donations are always needed. For more information contact Ken and Delores Frey, 546-7307.

Vineyard The Vineyard Community Activity Center, which has been providing Friday youth activity nights for 12 years, is moving to a new location at the end of May or early June. Cindy Collister, a member of our church, has been on staff from day one, and Charlotte Hoffman also helps by working the concession area. The Christian-based organization is purchasing property from Andritz, which will greatly enhance this outreach to area youth.

The Vineyard has a number of needs as they make this move, including building supplies, activity supplies and financial help. On August 27 help is needed to treat the roof. On Aug. 28 pick-up trucks and trailers are needed to move items from the old location to the new. Saturdays are work days. Opening Day is hoped to be Sept. 11

Some of the items include: Exterior white paint, Stove with range vent, Water hoses, Snow shovels, Lawn rakes, 3 wood screen doors (36x80), Picnic tables, Outdoor benches, Construction grade 2x4’s, dry wall, green board, interior paint, 3 basketball portable units, Volleyball net and balls.

Gift cards to local hardware and discount stores, as well as grocery stores, would also help. In addition, hands-on help with carpentry, plumbing, painting and moving will be appreciated. For more information, call 546-0633. Leave a message and your call will be returned.
