Mission Study: Haiti
Learn about the people of Haiti,
their history and their culture in this mission study which started
Sunday, January 15, 6:30 p.m. led by Kathy Burkhart. Because
we want to respond to the challenges the people of Haiti, we will
study to learn what we can do to help. We will listen to stories of
FAITH. We will express HOPE for the future. Then we will put LOVE IN
ACTION so that our faith will prove our hope true. It will be four
2-hour sessions with a break in the middle of each session.
Companions In Christ will
meet January 25, 7:00.
GriefShare is a faith-based
interdenominational support group which meets for 13 Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in
Room 104. It began Oct. 18, but participants don't need to attend
every session. Find encouragement and
hope. Come as able. For more information contact Holly Shaffer or Linda Miller, or
the church office (546-8030).
Lent Study Groups
"Call
Him Savior" A key part of living and passing on the faith is
to hear and remember the stories of the Lenten season. It is
tempting to bypass the somber notes of Lent and rush straight from
Ash Wednesday to Easter morning. “Alleluias” sing easier than “Were
you there when they crucified my Lord?” Yet the impact of an empty
tomb is most fully experienced when witnessed against the passion of
Jesus.
Celebrate the gift of salvation and new life in the Resurrection and
remember these stories, while reclaiming what it means to call Jesus
your Savior.
The following groups are in place at this time. We are still looking
for two more host homes and leaders. If you are interested, contact
Sally Gardy, 546-8040. The 7-session study begins the week of
February 19.

Loaves and Fishes Program
Our
Health and Welfare Commission is enhancing the way we do things for
our members who are home from surgery or lengthy hospital stays. We
are cooking nutritious meals ahead and freezing them so that we have
constant supply in our food bank. If you can help transport people
to appointments, etc., leave your name with the church office. If
you have “extras” such as frozen vegetables, or if you made a big
batch of something, bring them to the church and put them in the
freezer marked “Loaves and Fishes”. We will rely on Good and Plenty
dinners thanks to Betsy Mothersbaugh’s generosity. Please contact
Joyce McCarty or Anne Knox for any other
information.
Mothers Of Preschoolers, International (MOPS)
Please join us for our MOPS meetings on February 5 and 19 in
the lounge where we will be discussing consistency in working with
our families and children.
Consistency is a key skill that will lesson stress and make our
children feel more secure, but being consistent isn’t always easy.
Join us for a lively discussion on being consistent and sharing what
works (and doesn’t work) for our children.
We will be busy this month watching a video lesson, progressing in
the “Game of Life,” working on our goals, and sharing in
conversation that is sure to help us as mothers. At our February
19th meeting we will work on creating a reward/chore chart.
Our MOPPETS group will work to come up with fun things they like to
do with their moms and will have fun playing tic tac toe. This is a
great time for our children to socialize, get to know one another
and have fun in a safe atmosphere.
We hope that you will join us for a great time of fellowship, fun
and friendship. To be added to our mailing lists for the MOPs
newsletter, please email kahkmyers@gmail.com and we will be glad to
send it out to you.
If you are a mom
who…
· Is
pregnant or has a child, newborn through kindergarten age
· Desires
to make new friends
· Wants
to share the challenges and joys of motherhood
· Is
looking for opportunities for personal growth through trusted
resources
· Enjoys
giving back to the community
...then YES! MOPS
is for you!
It
exists to meet the needs of every mom— stay-at-home and working
moms, teen, single, and married moms—moms with different lifestyles
who all share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be!
MOPS recognizes that the years from infancy through kindergarten are
foundational in mother-child relationships and are filled with
unique needs. MOPS helps moms through relationships established in
the context of local groups that provide a caring atmosphere for
today’s mother of young children.
MOPS
stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. MOPS International exists to

MOPS meets September through May, 6-8
p.m. on the first and third Sundays in the lounge (next to lower
level entrance). Free childcare is available
through the “Moppets” program.
But it is so much
more than childcare! Each meeting, the MOPPETS (as we call the
group of children in our program) will have hands-on learning
experiences that teach them valuable lessons and skills.
For more information contact Amy Myers at
kahkmyers@gmail.com. Each
meeting includes time for socializing, a Bible teaching followed by
discussion, and occasionally a creative craft.
Better moms make
a better world.
Praying the Psalms
Sally Gardy will lead the group on
Sundays at 6:30 in Room 202. There will be two remaining sessions,
April 15 and 22. All are welcome.
Joy. Anger. Distress. Hope. Trust.
These and many more emotions are expressed in the Psalms. This study
offers help to openly express the full range of our emotions to God.
The Psalms teach us to talk to God about life’s deepest needs and
longings with vulnerability and spontaneity and give us permission
to talk to God with raw honesty.
The
topics over the nine weeks are:
1. A
Prayer of Dependence -
Psalm 86
2. A Prayer of Longing for God -
Psalm 63
3. A Prayer of Trust -
Psalm 62
4. A Prayer of Distress -
Psalm 57
5. A Prayer of Gratitude -
Psalm 65
6. A Prayer of Grief -
Psalm 102
7. A Prayer When God Is Silent -
Psalm 44
8. A Prayer for Hope -
Psalm 130
9. A Prayer of Joy -
Psalm 66
Tuesday Morning Study Group
meets in Fellowship Hall at 10:00. The topic
is Favorite Bible Passages. They will switch to the Lent Study on
February 21, then resume on April 19. Led by Sally Gardy. Contact the
church office to register. Come and enjoy the discussion.
